Alexis McLaughlin is an ESL teacher at Jane Long Academy. As a child her family stressed the significance of a quality education, and Alexis has carried those values with her throughout her career journey. Alexis began her teaching career at the University of Illinois as a Theatre Arts teaching assistant. After relocating to Houston area she became a certified English/ESL teacher. For seven years she has worked as a literacy interventionist, English, and ESL teacher leader for grades 6-8. Alexis has also taught ESL as an adjunct professor at Houston Community College. As a minority woman serving underrepresented populations, she believes that it is of upmost importance to inspire a love of literature and life long learning for all students. As a teacher she uses her love of learning to inspire students use their voices to become active in their educational pursuits, and to mold them into successful and productive citizens.
